Welcome to

The Abadir Lab

Research in the Peter Abadir Lab focuses on the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), a signaling pathway that regulates blood pressure and has been linked independently to both aging and inflammation. We’re particularly interested in changes in RAS that occur with aging. We also study signal transduction and the role of the crosstalk between angiotensin II receptor in aging and are interested in understanding the function of angiotensin II in the process of vascular aging.

About Frailty Syndrome

Frailty syndrome is defined as a clinically recognizable state of increased vulnerability resulting from aging-associated declines in reserve and function across multiple physiologic systems, so that the ability to cope with everyday or acute stressors is compromised. In the United States, frailty syndrome affects 15% of the older non-nursing home population aged 65 and older

About

Dr. Peter Abadir

Dr. Peter Abadir is an Associate Professor of Medicine at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. His area of clinical expertise is geriatric medicine. Dr. Abadir’s research interests include changes in the renin angiotensin aldosterone system with aging, signal transduction and the role of the cross talk between angiotensin II receptor in aging, and understanding the role of angiotensin II in the development of vascular aging. He has been recognized by the Hopkins Department of Medicine with the W. Leigh Thompson Excellence in Research Award. He is a member of the American Geriatrics Society and The Gerontological Society of America.
