Peter M. Abadir, MD

Professor of Medicine
Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine

A geriatrician whose research connects the biology of aging with clinical care and engineering.

Dr. Abadir investigates mitochondrial and angiotensin signaling, inflammation, and molecular markers of frailty and cognitive decline. His translational work includes targeted drug delivery, experimental wound-healing technologies, and AI-enabled approaches to assessing function.

He holds a joint appointment in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Whiting School of Engineering. Across his research and training programs, he mentors clinicians, scientists, and engineers working to improve health and independence in later life.

Mentorship is part of the lab’s scientific work. Training brings together aging biology, clinical investigation, quantitative approaches, engineering, and AI.

Dr. Abadir directs the NIH-funded Translational Aging Research Training Program. K24-supported mentorship extends this work through multimodal frailty assessment and molecular research.

A foundation
in clinical care.

Dr. Abadir earned his medical degree at Tripoli University, completed research training at the University of Virginia, and trained in family medicine at the University of Kentucky. He completed his fellowship in geriatric medicine and gerontology at Johns Hopkins.
